New ‘Steve Jobs’ trailer: Apple co-founder was more of a jerk than you thought

Did you know that Steve Jobs was a difficult, dramatic marketing genius who refused to acknowledge his daughter for a good chunk of her life?  That's the main takeaway from the full trailer for Danny Boyle's “Steve Jobs” which you can view at the top of this post.  Granted, it's just a preview, but Aaron Sorkin's screenplay doesn't seem to depict the Apple co-founder in the best light.

This new depiction of Jobs' life appears to focus on his early days when Apple initially made a splash, his dramatic departure in the mid '80s and his return in the mid '90s which began a turnaround which completely revolutionized how the world communicates.  Oh, and that Jobs had quite an ego.  Michael Fassbender, who clearly is a best actor contender because of the role itself, doesn't necessarily resemble Jobs (earlier choice Christian Bale was likely more right for the role than he actually thought he was), but the “12 Years A Slave” star is doing everything he can to channel Jobs' legendary passion (was Jobs ever that muscular though?).  More intriguing are Kate Winslet's performance as early Apple contributor and confidante Joanna Hoffman, Seth Rogen as a understandably frustrated Steve Wozniak (Apple's co-founder) and Katherine Waterson as Chrisann Brennan, the mother of Jobs' previously mentioned daughter.

Boyle, who had a major misstep with the 2013 thriller “Trance,” appears as though he's shot this biopic in a more conservative style than “127 Hours” or “Slumdog Millonaire,” but anyone discounting his ability to transform Sorkin's script into something special would be making a grave mistake.  Yep, this is going to be a must-see for the Fall whether you catch it at a festival or in your local multiplex.  And let's not forget the Oscars pedigree from those in front and behind the camera, either.  Like Jobs himself, it's a player.
