Nicolas Cage is an angry lumberjack in first trailer for David Gordon Green’s ‘Joe’

Nicolas Cage is ready to cut down some trees and do some redemption-ing.

The Oscar-winning actor dons a beard and some flannel (probably) for his role as a rage-filled lumberjack in David Gordon Green’s dark new drama “Joe,” and the first trailer for the film has now hit the interwebs. Co-starring Tye Sheridan (“Mud”), the plot centers on an ex-con (Cage) who takes an abused teenage boy under his wing and ultimately faces a choice between “redemption or ruin” in an effort to protect him. Based on the 1991 novel by Larry Brown, the film premiered to generally positive notices at last year’s Venice Film Festival.

“Joe” hits theaters on April 11.
