Outrage Watch: This ‘Jem and the Holograms’ trailer is a disaster

Welcome to Outrage Watch, HitFix's (almost) daily rundown of entertainment-related kerfuffles. Not anxious enough already? Get your fix of righteous indignation below, and stay posted for outrage updates throughout the week.

The “Jem and the Holograms” trailer is here, and everybody hates it. I refuse to sugarcoat this.

“We have to wonder why the creators even bothered,” writes Mashable's Pete Pachal. “We'll reserve final judgment until we see the actual film, but it seems pretty clear the story ditches most of the sci-fi and adventure that made the series unique, substituting a vanilla-favored plot that we've seen in dozens of tween flicks: Sudden fame can be toxic to friendships.”

“The Jem and the Holograms trailer stomps on everything that made the cartoon great,” screams the headline on Polygon.

“In an era when boy-friendly properties are being treated as big budget event movies, it”s a little bothersome, if not quite 'problematic' to see the first modern girl-centric nostalgia adaptation being treated as a comparatively cheap offering that is almost hilariously unfaithful to the original text,” writes Forbes contributor Scott Mendelson.

And from Moviefone's Gina Carbone: “They are slowly killing our childhoods, one toy at a time,”

Twitter commenters weren't particularly happy either:

William Shatner, meanwhile? Devastated.

If Shatner is weeping, we all are.
