Patrick Stewart & Ellen Page on ‘Days of Future Past’ and possibly even more ‘X-Men’

Before he ever appeared in the first “X-Men,” there was a campaign to have Patrick Stewart play the role of Charles Xavier.  Stewart did so quite successfully for three movies and now, after the better part of a decade, he's back in “X-Men: Days of Future Past.”

He isn't the only cast member from those films who has returned either – as has been highly publicized, the cast of the original trilogy is back for this new movie, appearing alongside of the “X-Men: First Class” group.  I got to sit down with three members of that original trilogy – Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart, and Ellen Page.

Stewart and Page were paired, and it certainly led to some interesting moments during the interview.  This may be best seen at about 2:50, when Stewart, upon finishing his answer to a question, notes that Page makes hand gestures as she speaks and just how important those hands are to the movie (you will have seen rays coming out of them and going into Wolverine in the trailers).  That sort of spur-of-the-moment interaction may not always provide incredible insight into a film, but they do offer an unvarnished glimpse at those who create them.

If you're looking for information about the film and what may come next for the original “X-Men” group, the two actors were certainly more than willing to discuss that as well.  When I asked if there was a chance for another original “X-Men” group reunion, Stewart stated “I hear people murmuring and whispering.”  Page said that she hasn't heard anything, but the way in which she offers up that answer could cause one to pause.  Definitely watch the above video for yourself and you decide if Ellen Page knows more than what she was saying.

Directed by Bryan Singer, “X-Men: Days of Future Past” hits theaters on Friday May 23rd.  Be sure to check out the other cast interviews and to read Drew McWeeny's review.
