Peter Jackson teases ‘Doctor Who’ directing job in new video

Peter Jackson's love for “Doctor Who” is no secret. His home is filled with “Doctor Who” memorabilia, which even includes a full-size Dalek. It's also no secret that he has long wanted to direct an episode of “Doctor Who.” While no official announcements have been made, the video he posted on Facebook today signals he may be directing an episode very soon.

In the video posted below, “Lord of the Rings” and “The Hobbit” director Peter Jackson can be seen sitting at a table in his home, polishing numerous Academy Awards with his daughter Katie. Katie begins checking his email, where she finds a message from “Doctor Who” showrunner Steven Moffat, asking Jackson to direct an episode of Britain's beloved sci-fi show.

Throughout the video Jackson pretends he's not interested, even when Peter Capaldi, the Twelfth Doctor himself, shows up at Jackson's house, being chased by a Dalek. Peter and Katie play along with the act quite well, and end the video by running off to watch “The Walking Dead”. It's a charming look at Peter Jackson, who, in addition to polishing his Oscars, is also reading a copy of the “The Silmarillion” — is that another hint at Jackson's future projects?

While this video doesn't serve as official confirmation from the BBC on Jackson's directing, it's a pretty huge hint that Jackson will direct an episode soon, presumably in season 10.

“Doctor Who” airs Saturday nights at 9/8C on BBC America.
