Nicole Kidman has decided not to star in Woody Allen’s latest London-set film.  Variety reports the Academy Award-winning actress has left the project which will be the filmmaker’s fourth film in the United Kingdom.

Hollywood insiders won’t be surprised at this news. Kidman has a laundry lists of ditched projects include “The Brave One,” “The Reader,” “Brave One” and “In the Cut.”  She may have missed out on an Oscar nomination with “The Reader” (Kate Winslet is certainly grateful she bowed out) and a big hit with “Panic Room” (ditto for Jodie Foster), but at least half the time it appears to have been a good move.

In this case, Kidman’s exit was due to a scheduling conflict on the big screen version of “Rabbit Hole,” which features the Oscar winner as producer and star.

Fortunately, a number of major stars still believe in Allen’s latest project, including Anthony Hopkins, Josh Brolin, Naomi Watts, Antonio Banderas and “Slumdog Millionaire’s” Freida Pinto.

Kidman will appear in another major ensemble this winter when she stars in Rob Marshall’s “Nine,” her first musical since “Moulin Rouge.”

Production on Allen’s latest untitled project is still scheduled to begin this summer in London.  His most recent comedy, “Whatever Works,” opens in New York and Los Angeles on June 19.
