Robert Downey Jr. and Gwyneth Paltrow talk ‘Iron Man 3’ at the premiere: Watch

Robert Downey Jr. is back once again as the billionaire superhero Tony Stark in Marvel’s upcoming “Iron Man 3.”

Its world premiere was held in Los Angeles earlier this week, where the stars talked about working the film, and what fans can expect from it.

“Iron Man 3” appears to be darker and more personal than the previous entries, with Oscar winner Ben Kingsley playing the villain The Mandarin. This time around, writer-director Shane Black (“Kiss Kiss Bang Bang”) called the shots for the Marvel hero, while former director Jon Favreau is returning in an exec producing capacity (in addition to reprising his small role as Happy Hogan).

In the first interview (above), Downey says, “Tony’s a little bit out of his element throughout the whole movie, and that’s what I think makes it a bit of a departure and brings it back to a nice, grounded place after ‘The Avengers.'”

He adds that fans should be pleased with the result. “Favreau always said you have to pay attention to what the audiences what, you gotta listen to what they’re saying at Comic-Con,” explained Downey.

In the film, things get so crazy that Stark asks for quite a bit of help from his friends, including his trusted confidante-turned-lover Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow) and his old pal James Rhodes, (Don Cheadle, who first appeared “Iron Man 2”).

Here, Paltrow talks about the evolution of her character:

Cheadle talks about playing Rhodey in the action-packed “Iron Man” films and interacting with fans:

As the film’s bad guy, Kingsley was new to the Marvel Universe, but he, and fellow newcomers Rebecca Hall and Guy Pearce received a hero’s welcome on the set. He calls it a “wonderful journey.”

Kingsley also talks about the film’s surprising humanity in his interview here:

Go to page two to hear what Pearce, Hall and Favreau had to say about the new film.

The Mandarin isn’t the only person Stark has to work about in “Iron Man 3.” Pearce appears as Aldrich Killian, the creator of a fearsome virus known as Extremis.

Below the actor discusses the thrill of being part of Marvel legacy, and working with Downey and Paltrow. He’s “part of the family now.” Awwww…

Watch:

Hall (“The Town”) plays Dr. Maya Hansen, who works with Killian in the film. Being part of the franchise was “a tremendous thrill” for Hall, who claims that the new film is as good as the previous two, and that it goes in new, “subversive” directions.

Finally, Favreau says he was relieved to just have fun in front of the camera, instead of worrying about directorial duties. His role as Happy Hogan was slightly enlarged for the third film.
