Robert Pattinson thriller ‘The Rover’ acquired by ‘Bling Ring’ distributor

Robert Pattinson’s next film will soon be heading to a theater near you.

Writer/director David Michôd’s “The Rover” has been picked up for U.S. release by A24, the youth-skewing distributor behind “Spring Breakers” and Sofia Coppola’s currently-in-theaters “The Bling Ring.” Set in the Australian outback ten years after the collapse of the western economic system, the “slow-burn” thriller stars Guy Pearce as Eric, a tough loner who runs afoul of a gang of car thieves and subsequently forces a wounded member of the group (Pattinson) to help him track down his stolen vehicle.

Also starring Scoot McNairy, David Field, Anthony Hayes, Gillian Jones and Susan Prior, “The Rover” is based on a story co-written by Michôd and his “Animal Kingdom” star Joel Edgerton (“The Great Gatsby”). The film was shot in Australia in the spring and is currently in post-production; no release date has been set at this time.

A24 struck gold recently with Harmony Korine’s “Spring Breakers,” which grossed over $30 million worldwide on a $5 million budget. Coming up, the company has Sundance favorite “The Spectacular Now” starring Shailene Woodley and Miles Teller set for a limited release on August 2.
