RoboScarJo: Hong Kong man designs Johansson-inspired robot

In the Oscar-winning film Her, Scarlett Johansson became the object of desire for many a nerd as the sexily-voiced operating system Samantha. Now a Hong Kong-based designer has taken this concept one step further, developing his own Johansson-inspired robot.

Ricky Ma tells Reuters that the robot, which cost $50,000 and 18 months to construct, is made out of a 3-D printed skeleton and silicone skin. It interestingly also has a Barbie-like figure, long blonde hair and can respond to statements like “I love you.”

As for his project, which he calls Mark 1, Ma said, “I figured I should just do it when the timing is right and realize my dream. If I realize my dream, I will have no regrets in life.”

Ma hasn”t actually acknowledged that Johansson was the model for his robot, only saying that it was designed to look like a famous Hollywood actress. But it doesn”t take much to figure out that the belly-shirt wearing, narrow-waisted robot is the based on the Lost in Translation star.
