Sam Rockwell confirms some ‘Poltergeist’ remake rumors

Sam Rockwell says the “Poltergeist” remake is coming to life soon.

The “Way, Way Back” star addressed some rumors about the film in an interview with HitFix and seems keen on moving the project forward, althouh he was predictably tight-lipped about details.

When asked if he’ll appear in the film, he answered cagily, “There may be some truth to that, we’re working it out.”

Directed by Gil Kenan (“Monster House”) and written by David Lindsay-Abaire (“Rabbit Hole,” “Oz the Great and Powerful”), the remake of the 1982 classic has been on the back burner for a few years now, but Rockwell indicated that things are starting to come together quickly.

“We’re trying to make it happen,” he explained, “It’s on its way.”

Word has it that this version of “Poltergeist,” also reportedly starring Rosemarie DeWitt and Nikki Blonsky, will depart quite a bit from the original film, which was produced by Steven Spielberg and directed by Tobe Hooper (1974’s original “The Texas Chain Saw Massacre”).

“It’s different,” Rockwell sort-of answered. “The couple is different…I can’t say too much, but it’s a different invention of their relationship.”
