Samantha Bee interviews an actual former Guantanamo Bay detainee

A long time ago, Barack Obama promised he would close Guantanamo Bay. Then he got elected president, and now, eight years later, Guantanamo Bay is still open and still holding prisoners who haven't been charged.

On last night's Full Frontal, Samantha Bee spoke with one of the detainees who was released. Murat Kurnaz, who lives in Germany, has written about his experience. He said he agreed to be on Full Frontal because he's watched it before. When Bee asked what he thought, he responded: “you talk very fast.”

Kurnaz watches a lot of American films and TV shows, it turns out, which is one of the reasons why he assumed that, after the American government determined within eight months of his capture that he was innocent, he'd be released. (Among the American show he does not watch: 24). Ultimately, he lost almost five years of his life in Guantanamo, and, when he was finally released, the American government never even apologized to him for it.
