Loyalty has a whole different meaning to Adam Sandler.  Whether it’s Rob Schneider, David Spade, Steve Buscemi, Rachel Dratch or Nick Swardson, the former “Saturday Night Live” standout has kept his friends close whether in his own films or those he produces through his Happy Madison company.  Now, as he did in the 2005 blockbuster “The Longest Yard,” Sandler has recruited some of his more recognizable buddies for a new untitled Columbia Pictures comedy.

According to Variety, Sandler is creating a hype machine by reuniting with his “I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry” co-star Kevin James (no doubt doubling his asking price after “Paul Blart: Mall Cop”), “Yard” standout and underrated Oscar host Chris Rock and former “SNL” colleagues Rob Schneider and David Spade.

The high-concept comedy was written by Sandler and longtime collaborator Fred Wolf (“Dickie Roberts: Former Child Star”) and centers on five best friends from high school who reunite 30 years later on a Fourth of July weekend. Sandler stable filmmaker Dennis Dugan (“You Don’t Mess With the Zohan”) is on board to direct.

Sandler recently wrapped Judd Apatow’s dramedy “Funny People.”  His family-friendly “Bedtime Stories” was somewhat of a holiday box office disappointment as it was overshadowed by “Marley & Me” and took in only $108 million.

Rock lent his vocal talents to the popular sequel “Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa” and shepherded the documentary “Good Hair” which had its premiere at this year’s Sundance Film Festival.  He also continues to executive produce the acclaimed TV series “Everybody Loves Chris.”

James, as previously mentioned, has been basking in the stunning success of “Paul Blart” as the studio has confirmed a sequel is in the works.

Production on the untitled Sandler comedy is expected to begin this summer in time for a 2010 release.
