Might this be the end of the road for Joel McHale on “The Soup”?

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the snarky clip presenter has landed the lead role in the NBC comedy pilot “Community,” playing a lawyer who has to return to community college when his college degree is rendered invalid.

This is the second time an NBC pilot has potentially endangered McHale’s role as host of the popular E! series “The Soup.” NBC actually ordered the comedy “The IT Crowd” to series, but it never aired on the network and McHale was able to continue at E!

The “Community” pilot will be directed by Anthony and Joe Russo (“Arrested Development”).

Also at NBC, Aimee Garcia (“George Lopez”) has been cast in the medical drama “Trauma” as the newest member of of an EMT team.

Over on CBS, Matthew Yang King (“Numb3rs”) has been cast in the drama “Washington Field” as a bomb expert in an elite FBI team.

Finally, Jimmy Wolk, who most recently starred in the CBS telefilm “Front of the Class,” willl play the lead in ABC’s untitled Daniel Cerone pilot.

The Cerone project is based on Argentina’s “Brothers & Detectives” and focuses on a low-level private eye (Wolk), whose 11-year-old brother is actually an Encyclopedia Brown-style crime-solving genius.
