Spock turns up the heat in new ‘Star Trek Into Darkness’ clip

J.J. Abrams’ “Star Trek Into Darkness” continues to roll out new footage in the form of videos and posters, and now we’ve been given a clip featuring Spock (Zachary Quinto) front-and-center.

Things seemingly get personal and very bleak in “Star Trek Into Darkness.” After a terrorist attack on Earth, Captain Kirk (Chris Pine) leads the Enterprise crew on an extensive hunt for the culprit.

As seen in the clip the Enterprise crew is a close-knit family. When Spock’s life is put in danger on a volcanic planet, they scramble to find a way to save their close friend without violating the Prime Directive. Kirk gets a chilling answer when he asks, “If Spock were here and I were there, what would he do?” Will Spock suffer a fate similar to 1981’s “Star Trek II: Wrath of Khan”? Another question: Why are some of them wearing such tight exercise suits?

It also stars Simon Pegg, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, and John Cho, who are all seen in the clip. Bruce Greenwood and Benedict Cumberbatch — as the villainous “John Harrison” — also star.

“Star Trek Into Darkness” opens in the U.S. May 17.
