The news of Oliver Stone returning to his snapshot at 1980s greed, “Wall Street,” was met with some skepticism in the Hollywood.  Ironically, even in these tough economic times where the crash of the stock market and investment banking make the subject matter extremely intriguing material, there were those who feel “Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps” is simply a case of Stone exploiting his early work.  But with Stone convincing Michael Douglas to reprise his Oscar winning role as Gordon “Greed is good” Gekko and recruit Shia LaBeouf and Frank Langella  that hardly seems the case.  Now the cast becomes even more prestigious as another Academy Award winner, Susan Sarandon, has come on board.

Variety reports Sarandon will play the mother of LaBeouf’s character, a young Wall Street trader who seemingly falls under the seductive influences of Douglas’ Gekko.

The actress will appear later this year in Peter Jackson’s “The Lovely Bones.”  She’s currently filming the HBO Jack Kevorkian biopic “You Don’t Know Jack” alongside Al Pacino for director Barry Levinson.

“Wall Street 2” is expected to begin production next month in New York.
