The charts continue their “Love Story” with Taylor Swift as “Fearless” logs its sixth week at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. According to Billboard, “Fearless” is the first album since 50 Cent’s “The Massacre” to spend so many weeks at the summit. That album came out in 2005.
Like most CDs in the top section of the chart, “Fearless” decreased in sales, if not chart position, as sales slide into the usual January slump. “Fearless” sold 72,000 this week, down from 90,000 last week. Despite slipping 18% in sales, Nickelback’s “Dark Horse,” rose from 5-2.
Lady Gaga’s star continue to ascend. Even though sales of “The Fame” declined 7 % it was a small enough drop to push her album up 12 places from 26-14.
Two new titles enter the top 50 of the chart: DJ Skribble’s “Total Club Hits No. 2” at No. 16 and Jason Nevins’ “Ultra Dance 10,” which comes in at No. 41.
We expect the chart to look similarly static for the next few weeks as the first albums that will shake it up don’t come until Feb. 4 after new music from Bruce Springsteen (“Working on a Dream”) and a remix collection from Rihanna come out on Jan. 27.
