What could be more American than baseball , Bob, Willie and John?
Three of the U.S.’s most iconic artists: Bob Dylan, Willie Nelson and John Mellencamp, are suiting up for a tour of minor-league baseball parks this summer starting–when else–July 4th weekend.
The 2009 Ballpark Tour starts July 2 in Sauget, Ill., according to rollingstone.com, and lasts until Aug. 15. Tickets are general admission and are all $67.50. Kids under 14 are free. (What a smart way to cater to families and try to get younger kids interested in these acts).
We didn’t know this, but apparently Dylan is quite the baseball nut and has even devoted time on his radio show to talking baseball.
They aren’t the first artists to attempt such a feat. Live and Counting Crows toured minor league parks a few years ago, as has Def Leppard. It’s an alternative to playing amphitheaters and gives a homespun vibe to the shows. Plus, it allows the tour to visit many tertiary markets it might otherwise skip because there isn’t an appropriate venue i that town.
