The women of Hitfix react to the ‘Fifty Shades Darker’ trailer!

Clip It: Each day, Jon Davis looks at the world of trailers, featurettes, and clips and puts it all in perspective.

Well, it's here! The Fifty Shades Darker trailer. I have to admit, as someone who's not really into erotic literature, this might not be my cup of tea. But a lot of people have read the book series by E.L. James and lot of people went to see the first movie. My understanding is that women made up a big chunk of the audience in both cases. So rather than watch this trailer through the male gaze, I thought it'd be interesting to see how our esteemed female editors and writers over at HitFix felt about the new entry in this sexy series about sexy people doing sexy things.

I doffed my suede hat, dusted off my old tape recorder, and approached Associate Editor Emily Rome with the enthusiastic gusto of a cub reporter. And while that's not entirely true, because all I did was send her an email, I still awaited her response with excitement. “I have no interest in it,” she said, not unkindly. I understood.

And that's fine. That's fine. I figured Jill Pantozzi, Contributor and Weekend Editor, was probably interested in Christian Grey and Anastasia and their lascivious behavior in and out of the workplace. What did she think of the new trailer? “I didn't even bother to watch.” Not into workplace stories, it turns out. Jill returned to her activity of vampire slaying.

Okay, strike two. But don't forget Donna Dickens. Writer. Correspondent. Expert. Like Olivia from Fringe, Donna has a photographic memory, encyclopedic recall, and probably another, less cool version of herself in a parallel universe. How concerned was she about Christian Grey's ex-girlfriends and the trouble they'd make for Anastasia? Donna probably knew each of their names and the power levels on the back of their trading cards. But before I could even say “shades, she said, “I”d rather remove my eyes with a hot ice cream scoop than watch that trailer.”

Well, there you have it. The women of Hitfix don't like Jamie Dornan movies for some reason. I guess you will all have to watch on your own time. Let me know what you think!
