Tom McGrath says ‘Penguins of Madagascar’ co-star Benedict Cumberbatch is ‘hilarious’

The thing about animation is, you can be cast opposite a pair of incredible actors and never actually get to work with them.

“That's animation. I wish we could be in mo-cap suits jumping around together, but it's rare when schedules align like that,” said “Penguins of Madagascar” voice actor/screenwriter (and “Madagascar 1-3” director) Tom McGrath of not having the opportunity to collaborate with A-list co-stars Benedict Cumberbatch and John Malkovich in person. “So, I'm hoping…we still have a couple scenes to do to finish the movie, so I'm hoping I can get with John and Benedict at some point.”

Oh, and no surprise to fans of either actor, but McGrath assures us that both Cumberbatch and Malkovich are “hilarious” in the “Madagascar” spinoff, in which they play wolf leader Classified and “disgruntled octopus” Dr. Octavius Brine, respectively.

“Penguins of Madagascar” hits theaters on November 26.
