Fast National ratings for Thursday, May 14, 2009.

The doubly-shocking finale for ABC’s “Grey’s Anatomy” dominated the Thursday ratings, taking out not one, but two different brands of “CSI” finale.

ABC controlled the 18-49 demographic with a 4.5 rating, beating CBS’ 3.4 rating and the 2.8 rating for FOX in the key demographic. NBC’s 2.3 rating was fourth, followed by the 1.3 rating for The CW.

Overall, ABC averaged an estimated 13.18 million viewers in primetime to go with an 8.8 rating/15 share, nipping the 8.2/14 for CBS. FOX was a distant third with a 4.9/8, followed by the 3.2/5 for NBC and a 1.9/3 for The CW.

CBS started the night in first with a 7.0/12 for the season’s penultimate “Survivor Tocantins.” FOX’s “Bones” finale was second with a 5.4/9, comfortably ahead of “Ugly Betty” on ABC. NBC’s “My Name Is Earl” and “Parks and Recreation” finales were well back in fourth, barely beating the 2.0/4 for the finale of “Smallville” on The CW.

At 9 p.m., the first hour of the “Grey’s Anatomy” finale was first with a 10.5/17 topping the sluggish 9.1/14 for the season finale of “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation.” FOX’s “Hell’s Kitchen” finale was a distant third, beating the 3.7/6 averaged by NBC’s “The Office” and “30 Rock” in their finales. The CW’s “Supernatural” fell only slightly from its “Supernatural” lead-in.

“Grey’s Anatomy” improved to an 11.4/19 in the 10 p.m. hour. The “CSI: NY” finale had an 8.4/14 for second. Facing tough competition, NBC’s “Southland” was down to a 3.0/5, with a 1.7 demo rating and well under 5 million viewers.
