A special Thursday night “American Idol” results show helped FOX score a narrow win for the night and took a bite out of the ratings for CBS’ “Survivor: Tocantins.”

FOX won the key 18-49 demographic with a 5.7 rating, comfortably ahead of the 3.7 rating for CBS and NBC’s 2.5 rating. ABC was fourth for the night with a 1.9 rating, while The CW’s 0.7 was enough for fifth.

Overall, FOX averaged an estimated 15.27 million viewers and an 8.8 rating/14 share. CBS’ 8.7/14 was a very tight second. ABC finished a distant third with a 4.2/7, beating the 3.9/6 for NBC and The CW’s 1.3/2.

In the 8 p.m. hour, “American Idol” averaged an 11.9/19 for FOX. CBS’ “Survivor: Tocantins” was second, with a lower-than-normal 7.1/11. ABC’s “Ugly Betty” also took a dip, doing a 4.6/7 for the hour. NBC’s “Secrets of the Furious Five” and “Kath & Kim” were fourth, beating the 1.4/2 for The CW’s “Smallville” repeat.

CBS moved into first in the 9 p.m. hour with an 11.2/18 for “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation.” FOX’s “Hell’s Kitchen” lost more than half of its “Idol” lead-in, doing a 5.6/9, still tying “CSI” in the 18-49 demo. ABC’s “Grey’s Anatomy” repeat was third, beating an old “Office” (3.3/5) and a new “30 Rock” (3.9/6) on NBC. The CW’s “Supernatural” held onto most of its lead-in.

The 10 p.m. hour went to CBS’ “Eleventh Hour,” which had a 7.7/13. NBC’s “E.R.” was second with a  5.8/10 (and won the hour in the 18-49 demo). ABC’s “Private Practice” repeat was third.
