Fast National ratings for Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2009.

President Barack Obama pushed this week’s “American Idol” performance episode to Wednesday and FOX capitalized with a two-hour primetime romp.

FOX averaged an 8.9 rating in the hey 18-49 demographic, more than the combined totals for ABC (2.7 rating), CBS (2.7 rating), NBC (2.2 rating) and The CW (0.3 rating).

Overall, FOX averaged an estimated 24.25 million viewers and a 13.8/22. Again, FOX’s viewership exceeded the combined totals for the other four networks and its ratings nearly did as well. CBS was second with a 7.0/11, followed by NBC and ABC, which tied with a 4.2/7. The CW’s 0.6/1 hardly registered.

FOX kicked the night off in first with a 13.4/21 for “American Idol.” NBC’s “Biggest Loser: Couples” was second with a 5.5/9. CBS’ repeats of “The New Adventures of Old Christine” and “Gary Unmarried” were third, nipping the tally for a “Lost” repeat on ABC. The CW’s “Privileged” finale encore had a 0.7/1 for the hour.

“American Idol” improved to a 14.2/22 in the 9 p.m. hour. CBS was second with a 9.0/14 for “Criminal Minds.” The competition pushed “Lost” to a 5.9/9, in third. NBC’s “Life” had a 3.3/5 for fourth, leaving a “90210” repeat in fifth for The CW.

CBS grabbed the final primetime hour, doing an 8.2/14 with “CSI: NY.” A repeat of “Law & Order” on NBC was second, holding off the 3.6/6 for “Life on Mars.”

All ratings information comes from preliminary Fast National Nielsen data, which includes live and same-day DVR viewing. All numbers are subject to change.
