TV Ratings: Building ‘Secrets and Lies’ leads ABC Sunday split

Renewal hopes for “Secrets and Lies” continue to improve as the ABC drama outdrew “Once Upon a Time” overall and tied with “Once” among young viewers, helping ABC split Sunday night.

ABC may have won Sunday in the key demo, but “Madam Secretary” and “60 Minutes” helped CBS cruise to an easy overall win.

Other Sunday notables included an impressively consistent through-line for FOX's two-hour comedy block, plus NBC's “American Odyssey” falling to halfway between “zero” and “The Mulaney Line” in the key demo.

Let's get to the numbers…

Among adults 18-49, ABC averaged a 1.5 rating for Sunday night, tops in the key demographic. FOX was second with a 1.2 key demo rating, while CBS and NBC both did a 0.9 key demo rating for Sunday.

Overall, though, CBS averaged an estimated 8.88 million viewers and a 5.7 rating/10 share for Sunday night. ABC and NBC both averaged a 3.3/6, with ABC averaging 5.36 million viewers to edge out the 5.17 million viewers for NBC. FOX was fourth with 2.7 million viewers and a 1.6/3.

7 p.m. – CBS led the 7 p.m. hour overall with 10.16 million viewers for “60 Minutes,” finishing second with a 1.1 rating among adults 18-49. ABC's “America's Funniest Home Videos” won the hour with a 1.5 key demo rating and finished second with 6.05 million viewers. NBC's “Dateline” was third with 4.75 million viewers and tied for third with a 0.8 key demo rating. FOX was fourth overall and also tied for third in the key demo with a “Simpsons” repeat (1.67 million and a 0.6 key demo) and a new “Bob's Burgers” (2.03 million and a 0.9 key demo).

8 p.m. – “Madam Secretary” delivered Sunday's biggest overall audience with 10.43 million viewers, but finished fourth for the 8 p.m. hour with a 1.0 rating among adults 18-49. NBC's “Dateline” was second with 7.27 million viewers and third with a 1.3 key demo rating. ABC's “Once Upon a Time” was third overall with 5.13 million viewers, but won the hour with a 1.7 key demo rating. FOX was fourth overall and second in the key demo with “The Simpsons” (3.3 million and a 1.5 key demo) and “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” (2.79 million and a 1.5 key demo).

9 p.m. – “The Good Wife” kept CBS in first overall with 8.74 million viewers in the 9 p.m. hour, but also kept CBS in fourth in the key demo with a 1.0 rating among adults 18-49. ABC's “Secrets and Lies” was second with 5.75 million viewers and won the hour with a 1.7 key demo rating. NBC's slipping “A.D.” averaged 5.72 million viewers and a 1.1 key demo rating for third. FOX stayed fourth overall and second in the key demo with “Family Guy” (3.16 million and a 1.5 key demo) and “The Last Man on Earth” (3.23 million and a 1.4 key demo rating).

10 p.m. – “Battle Creek” completed CBS' overall primetime sweep with 6.175 million viewers and put the network in second with a 0.7 rating among adults 18-49. ABC's “Revenge” averaged 4.51 million viewers for second and a 1.0 key demo rating to win the hour. NBC's “American Odyssey” was third with 2.93 million viewers and a 0.5 key demo rating.
