TV Ratings: FOX’s ‘Dance’ and NBC’s ‘Talent’ do Wednesday battle

Fast National ratings for Wednesday, June 25, 2009.

NBC’s “America’s Got Talent” went head-to-head with FOX’s “So You Think You Can Dance” on Wednesday and came out on top, but FOX was still victorious for the night.

Among adults 18-49, FOX averaged a 2.8 rating, beating the 2.2 rating for NBC. ABC was third in the coveted demographic with a 1.8 rating. CBS’ 1.5 rating was fourth, leaving The CW in fifth with a 0.5 rating.

Overall, FOX and NBC averaged the same 4.6 rating/8 share, but FOX’s average audience of an estimated 7.5 million viewers edged the 7.4 million for NBC. CBS was a close third with a 4.3/8, with ABC’s 3.2/6 in fourth. The CW trailed with a 0.7/1.

FOX’s “So You Think You Can Dance” and ABC’s “Wipout” battled in the 8 p.m. hour. Both shows tied with a 2.7 demo rating, while FOX came out on top in ratings (4.6/9 to 4.3/8), though the ABC series averaged more viewers. Got that? CBS’ “The New Adventures of Old Christine” and “Gary Unmarried” beat the 2.8/5 for NBC’s “I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!” The CW trailed with a 0.7/1 for “America’s Next Top Model.”

NBC had a commanding lead in the 9 p.m. hour with a 6.1/10 for “America’s Got Talent.” FOX’s “So You Think You Can Dance” was a distant third with a 4.7/8, actually finishing behind the 4.9/8 for CBS’ “Criminal Minds” for the hour. ABC’s “I Survived a Japanese Game Show” had a 2.3/4 in its second week. The CW’s repeat of “Hitched or Ditched” trailed.

CBS won the 10 p.m. hour with a 4.9/9, though NBC’s “The Philanthropist” averaged more viewers and a higher 18-49 rating to go with its 4.8/8 overall. ABC’s special with President Obama finished third.
