Fast National ratings for Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2009.

FOX’s two-hour special “Octomom: The Incredible Unseen Footage” wasn’t a disaster, but it also failed to give the network a meaningful ratings bump on Wednesday night, as NBC won in most key measures.

Among adults 18-49, NBC averaged a 1.8 rating, just ahead of the 1.6 rating for ABC and FOX. CBS’ 1.4 rating was still well ahead of The CW’s 0.4 rating in the key demographic.

Overall, NBC averaged an estimated 7.46 million viewers to go with a 4.8 rating/8 share. CBS’ 3.8/7 and ABC’s 3.7/6 were close behind. FOX was fourth with a 2.7/5, leaving The CW in last with a 0.8/1.

ABC won the 8 p.m. hour with a 4.5/8 for yet another night of “Who Wants To Be a Millionaire.” NBC’s “America’s Got Talent” repeat was second overall, but won the hour in the 18-49 demo. CBS’ “The New Adventures of Old Christine” and “Gary Unmarried” averaged a 2.9/5 for third. FOX’s “Octomom” special had a 2.6/5 for fourth overall, though it did win its first half-hour in the 18-49 demo and finished second in the demo for the hour. The CW was fifth with a 0.8/1 for “America’s Next Top Model.”

NBC moved into first at 9 p.m. with a 6.4/11 for “America’s Got Talent.” CBS’ “Criminal Mind” had a 4.4/7 for second, topping a repeat of “Wipeout” on ABC. FOX’s special improved slightly to a 2.8/5 (and 4.4 million viewers) in fourth, but slipped to third in the 18-49 demo. The CW’s “America’s Next Top Model” was fifth.

CBS closed the night in first with a 4.2/7 for “CSI: NY.” NBC’s “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” had a 3.9/7 for a close second, while ABC’s “Primetime: Crime” special wasn’t far off in third.
