TV Ratings: Monday split as ‘Gotham’ rises, ‘Blacklist’ falls and ‘Scorpion’ steadies

Fast National ratings for Monday, November 3, 2014.

Even with a “Countdown to CMA Awards” special pulling things down, CBS still won Monday night overall, while a drop for “Blacklist” couldn't keep NBC from winning Monday among young viewers.

Note that ABC had the NFL preemption in Indianapolis and the margin of victory is small enough that NBC could end up in first overall after figures adjust.

There were some minor Monday fluctuations that you shouldn't put all that much stock in, but in case you're curious: “Gotham” was up for FOX, which made it look worse that “Sleepy Hollow” dipped a little. The second week of “2 Broke Girls” was down a little, leading into a dip for “The Millers,” which made it look better that “Scorpion” was flat.

And although “Jane the Virgin” was up week-to-week for The CW, that was mostly the product of an NFL preemption in New York.

On to the numbers…

Among adults 18-49, NBC averaged a 3.1 rating for Monday night, tops in the key demographic. FOX and CBS both averaged a 1.9 rating in the key demographic, edging out ABC's 1.8 key demo rating. The CW averaged an NFL-inflated 0.6 key demo rating for the night.

Overall, ABC averaged an estimated 11.38 million viewers and a 7.5 rating/12 share for Monday night, topping NBC's 10.98 million viewers and 6.7/11. CBS was a close-ish third for the night with 8.93 million viewers and a 5.7/9, far ahead of FOX's 5.52 million viewers and 3.3/5. The CW averaged a 0.9/1 and 1.36 million viewers for the football-inflated night.

8 p.m. – “Dancing with the Stars” won the 8 p.m. hour overall with 12.91 million viewers and finished third with a 2.0 rating among adults 18-49. NBC's “The Voice” was second overall with 11.98 million viewers and won the hour easily with a 3.3 key demo rating. CBS was third overall and fourth in the key demo with “2 Broke Girls” (6.78 million and a 2.2 key demo) and “The Millers” (6.78 million and a 1.6 key demo). FOX's “Gotham” was fourth overall with 6.55 million viewers and second with a 2.4 key demo rating. The CW's football-inflated “The Originals” averaged 1.3 million viewers and a 0.6 key demo rating.

9 p.m. – ABC stayed in first overall in the 9 p.m. hour with 13.56 million viewers for “Dancing with the Stars,” which finished third with a 2.1 rating among adults 18-49. NBC's “The Voice” won the hour in the key demo with a 3.5 rating and finished second with 11.72 million viewers overall. CBS' “Scorpion” averaged 10.3 million viewers for a strong third and finished second with a 2.2 key demo rating. There was a big drop to the 4.49 million viewers and 1.5 key demo rating for FOX's “Sleepy Hollow.” On The CW, “Jane the Virgin” would have averaged 1.42 million viewers and a 0.6 key demo rating, except that those numbers are clearly skewed.

10 p.m. – “The Blacklist” moved NBC into first for the 10 p.m. hour with 9.225 million viewers and a 2.4 rating among adults 18-49, followed closely by the 9.13 million viewers and 1.5 key demo rating for CBS' “NCIS: Los Angeles.” ABC's CMAs preview averaged 7.66 million viewers and a 1.3 key demo rating.
