TV Ratings: NBC and FOX split Wednesday, ‘Oh Sit!’ doesn’t bomb for CW

Fast national ratings for Wednesday, August 15, 2012.

On a sluggish post-Olympics Wednesday, FOX and NBC traded advantages in the rating, while the most exciting news (if you can call it that) came from the ratings for the CW’s musical chairs competition show “Oh Sit!,” which were non-terrible by CW standards.

For the night, NBC was the most-watched network, with an average of 6.2 million viewers, but its 1.6 rating among adults 18-49 was a percentage point below the 1.7 for FOX, which attracted 4.7 million viewers for “So You Think You Can Dance.” CBS was third (1.4, 5.4 million), followed by ABC (1.2, 3.6 million) and the CW (0.4, 967,000).

8 p.m. — “Big Brother” won the hour for CBS with a 2.1 demo rating and 6.1 million viewers overall. “So You Think You Can Dance” (1.8, 4.8 million) was a close second in the demo, though an “America’s Got Talent” rerun on NBC (1.3, 5.6 million) got more viewers. Reruns of “The Middle” and “Suburgatory” combined to average a 1.0 and 3.4 million viewers for ABC, while the debut of “Oh Sit!” averaged a 0.5 demo rating and 1.3 million viewers overall. It was the CW’s most-watched and highest-rated reality series premiere this summer, which says as much about the ratings for “Breaking Pointe,” “The Catalina” and company.

9 p.m. — An original “America’s Got Talent” (2.2, 8.3 million) won the hour for NBC, with the second half of “So You Think You Can Dance” (1.7, 4.6 million) the only show close in the demo. They were followed by a “Criminal Minds” repeat on CBS (1.2, 5.4 million), repeats of “Modern Family” and “Suburgatory” on ABC (1.2, 3.3 million) and a “Supernatural” rerun on the CW (0.3, 675,000).

10 p.m. — A “Law & Order: SVU” repeat on NBC (1.3, 4.7 million) and “20/20” on ABC (1.3, 4.1 million) tied for the demo lead, while a “CSI” repeat on CBS (1.0, 5.4 million) was the hour’s most-watched show.

All ratings information comes from preliminary Fast National Nielsen data, which includes live and same-day DVR viewing. All numbers are subject to change.
