After years of telling “America’s Next Top Model” that anybody under 5’8″ might as well be a dwarf, Tyra Banks is looking for a smaller crop of runway strutters.
The CW announced on Monday (Feb. 23) that casting for the next cycle of “America’s Next Top Model” will begin on Feb. 28. As usual, the show is looking for beautiful women between the ages of 18 and 28. As usual, the show will take candidates of any ethnicity and they may even give a pass to one or two plus-sized models.
The big catch for Cycle 13?
The girls have to be 5’7″ or under.
“There have been top supermodels in the past that weren”t as tall as the industry demands, like fashion icon Kate Moss,” says Banks in a CW statement. “So we are changing up ‘Top Model’ for cycle 13 and making it a year for the shorter model!”
The first “America’s Next Top Model” call where women will probably be wearing flats instead of high heals will take place on Feb. 28 in Miami, followed by a March 3 stop in San Francisco.
Tyra’s scouts will head to Washington, D.C. on March 7, with subsequent stops in New York City (March 14), Dallas (Marsh 21), Chicago (March 25) and Los Angeles (March 28).
The 12th cycle of “America’s Next Top Model” will premiere on Wednesday, March 4 with a two-hour episode.
