Video: James Gunn, Karen Gillan talk evil and wrestlers in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’

LOS ANGELES –  It was “Thor: The Dark World’s” premiere last night, but cast and crew from “The Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” and “Guardians of the Galaxy” certainly had a turn to share some of the Marvel-ous spotlight.

On the red carpet at the new “Thor” sequel’s unveiling, HitFix caught up with “Guardians” director James Gunn and the film’s villainess Karen Gillan, to get a whiff of their 2014 movie.

Gillan — if you’ll remember — showed off her bald head to a shocked Hall H at San Diego Comic-Con this summer, to discus her role as Nebula in “Guardians of the Galaxy.” With her signature red locks growing back, a beautiful round crown about her head, black baby bows and a big smile on her face, she revealed to us how, in part, she prepared for her evil role: she went to the internet. She looked up a list of the 50 best villains, she said, and one stuck out: Bette Davis in “Whatever Happened to Baby Jane.”

“You know where she’s coming from,” Gillan explained.

Maybe the “Doctor Who” actress could have used our list of 11 scariest lady villains on TV?

Meanwhile, Gunn talked about Gillan’s co-star and “Guardians” protagonist Chris Pratt (as Star-Lord), repeating that he sees huge “move star” potential in the “Parks and Recreation” actor.

“Chris Pratt is — without a doubt — going to be the biggest movie star in the world in the next couple of years,” Gunn said, saying that “no one” holds a candle to his “vulnerable, masculine, heroic, funny” hero gig.

Gunn also gushed about how Benicio del Toro is “wacked out” as The Collector, and how former “Smackdown”/”Raw” wrestler Dave Bautiste really can act.

“Dave has something in his eyes, a layer of depth to him,” Gunn said. “And he’s funny as hell.”

“Guardians of the Galaxy” is slated to arrive August 2014.

“Thor the Dark World” is out on Friday.
