Watch: ‘American Idol’s’ Kris Allen talks getting personal on ‘Thank You Camellia’

“American Idol”s” season eight winner Kris Allen returns with his sophomore set, “Thank You Camellia” on Tuesday, May 21.

The album is chockful of tunes the singer/songwriter crafted about his journey, with many of them expressing the optimism contained in first single “The Vision of Love.”  (see his thoughts about that song here)

[More after the jump…]

More than two years after his debut, “Thank You” lets listeners into Allen”s world and he talked to Hitfix about how he had to learn that fans want to hear his personal thoughts. “On the first record, i almost didn”t want to put myself out there because it”s very personal.[but] people want to hear you. [This album] is very personal. These are my stories and hopefully you can relate to it.”

As fans who saw him on “American Idol” know, the 26-year old is deeply committed to his wife, high school sweetheart Katy, but he admits that the separations caused by recording and traveling are difficult. “Our life is not easy, but she is amazing, she deals with everything great, but it”s hard.”

We”ll post our review of “Thank You Camellia,” which takes it title from the name of the Los Angeles street Allen lived on while recording the album, next week.
