Watch: Jesse Eisenberg, Aziz Ansari talk Oscars for ’30 Minutes or Less’

NEW YORK – Aziz Ansari and Jesse Eisenberg aren’t always the best of friends in their new movie “30 Minutes or Less,” but they certainly made each other chuckle during the movie’s junket.

The pair play “regular guys” in the Ruben Fleischer-directed film, put into a sticky situation: Eisenberg’s Nick is abducted by bad guys Nick Swardson and Danny McBride and forced to rob a bank before a bomb strapped to his chest explodes.

The terror of that situation is made into a little bit of fun, as they burst into the bank. It’s the “crux of the movie,” Ansari told HitFix.

“In their minds they’re the guys from point break or heat, and in their bodies they’re us.”

Thankfully, playing regular 20-something dudes meant that they had to beef up for the parts.

“But, y’know we tone down [our] beefiness. We both were so muscular…”

Oscar-nominee Eisenberg worked with Fleischer previously on “Zombieland,” and says that the director excels at “making a movie very cinematic, very fun to look act, but he never compromises what the actors want to do.”

Check out the video above for what Academy Award nomination (real or imagined) Ansari and Eisenberg think “30 Minutes or Less” should earn, and what the comedian has to say about his TV show’s recent Emmy nomination.

“30 Minutes or Less” will be out tomorrow (Aug. 12).
