Unless it’s someone from the “Harry Potter” or “Twilight” novels most literary characters find themselves dramatically transformed in some way or another on the big screen. And there are countless examples of fans who were disappointed their favorite heroes, heroines or adversaries weren’t as well rounded in the movies as they were on the page. No disrespect to original author Emily Giffin, but from all accounts that’s not the case with “Something Borrowed.”
Directed by Luke Greenfield, “Borrowed” follows Rachel (Ginnifer Goodwin), a 30-year-old New Yorker who realizes she’s always been in love with her former law school colleague Dex (Colin Egglesfeld) who is about to marry her childhood, current BFF and the epitome of “the world revolves around me” girlfriend Darcy (Kate Hudson). No, it’s not the variation of “My Best Friend’s Wedding” that you think it might be as the whole scenario resolves itself in a somewhat unexpected manner.
Speaking to stars Hudson and Egglesfeld last month, the duo discussed how different — in a good way mind you — their respective characters Darcy and Dex were from the first novel and the sequel, “Something Blue.” Most noticeably, Hudson’s Darcy teases as beeing more of a realistic human being than the worst girlfriend Rachel would be insane to stay friends with her entire life. Egglesfeld, on the other hand, found his character actually being given more motivation to potentially stay with Darcy than in the book.
