Watch: Robert Downey Jr. breaks down Iron Man in Marvel’s ‘Assembling a Universe’ clip

(CBR) Marvel has provided CBR with an exclusive clip from the upcoming “Marvel Studios: Assembling a Universe” documentary airing March 18 on ABC featuring “Iron Man” star Robert Downey, Jr. and producer Stephen Broussard. “Assembling a Universe” chronicles the rise of Marvel Studios, beginning with the first “Iron Man” film and continuing through 2012's record-breaking “The Avengers,” next month's “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” and their expansion to television with “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” The behind-the-scenes look at the formation of the Marvel Cinematic Universe will feature insight and commentary from the stars and creative teams from the hit films as well footage from upcoming movies and “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.”

“Playing someone who's conflicted, and conflicted for the right reasons and doesn't see the potential that they have and then starts living in accordance with a code is a great, old-fashioned theme,” Downey says in the clip. “But I hadn't ever imagined that I could be involved in something that demonstrates it on this scale.” Fans will recall that it was the breakout success of “Iron Man,” Marvel Studios inaugural effort in 2008 featuring a character who didn't have the mainstream awareness of the X-Men or Spider-Man that allowed Marvel to continue producing and developing their own films, all of which exist in a shared universe. “Marvel Studios: Assembling a Universe” premieres Tuesday March 18 at 8:00pm on ABC.
