Netflix's The Get Down will certainly be known as a series trying to capitalize on the success of Empire but this new trailer makes the case for it being recognized on its own terms. The hip-hop drama from Baz Luhrmann (and executive producer Nas) “chronicles the rise of hip-hop and the last days of disco -– told through the lives, music, art and dance of the South Bronx kids who would change the world forever.”
The Get Down, which stars Shameik Moore, Jaden Smith, Giancarlo Esposito and a ton more, will debut on Netflix on August 12. From the looks of this preview, it's prime to become your new binge-viewing obsession.
