Wednesday Ratings: ‘Celebrity Wife Swap’ tops ‘Extant’ among young viewers

Audiences weren't particularly excited for the second season premiere of “Extant,” which returned at the same key demo level as a trio of comedy repeats on ABC and below such luminaries as FOX's “Bullseye.” CBS still managed to rule Wednesday overall and tie for first among young viewers with “Big Brother” leading the way.

There were few other notables on Wednesday, so let's get straight to the numbers.

There was actually a three-way tie for first in the key demographic with CBS, NBC and FOX all averaging a 1.2 rating among adults 18-49 for Wednesday primetime. ABC was third with a 0.8 key demo rating, followed by The CW's 0.3 key demo rating.

Overall, CBS led with an estimated 5.55 million viewers and a 3.6 rating/7 share for Wednesday night. NBC was second with 4.68 million viewers and a 2.9/5. FOX's 3.56 million viewers and 2.1/4 and the 3.235 million viewers and 2.2/4 for ABC followed. The CW averaged 1.09 million viewers and a 0.7/1 for the night.

8 p.m. – The season's second Wednesday “Big Brother” episode averaged 5.84 million viewers and a 1.8 rating among adults 18-49 for CBS, below last week's premiere levels, but easily tops for the night in all measures. NBC's “America's Got Talent” encore averaged 5.35 million viewers for second and a 1.1 key demo rating for third, compared to the 4.3 million viewers and 1.4 key demo rating for FOX's “MasterChef.” ABC's repeats of “The Middle” and “The Goldbergs” averaged 3.5 million viewers and a 0.7 key demo rating, topping the 1.09 million viewers and 0.3 key demo rating for The CW's “Arrow” repeat.

9 p.m. – A “Criminal Minds” repeat won the 9 p.m. hour overall for CBS with 5.64 million viewers and tied for second with a 0.9 rating among adults 18-49. NBC's “American Ninja Warrior” encore was second with 4.29 million viewers and won the hour with a 1.2 key demo rating. Repeats of “Modern Family” and “Black-ish” averaged 3.29 million viewers for ABC, topping the 2.82 million viewers for FOX's “Bullseye,” while both networks did a 0.9 key demo rating. A CW repeat of “Supernatural” averaged 1.09 million viewers and a 0.9 key demo rating.

10 p.m. – The second season premiere for “Extant” won the 10 p.m. hour for CBS with 5.17 million viewers and finished third with a 0.7 rating among adults 18-49. NBC's “American Ninja Warrior” encore was second with 4.4 million viewers and led with a 1.3 key demo rating. “Celebrity Wife Swap” was a distant third with 2.92 million viewers, but beat “Extant” with a 0.8 key demo rating.
