‘Weird Al’ Yankovic is thankful for Patton Oswalt’s shout-out for his Grammy win

LOS ANGELES – “Weird Al” Yankovic called the Best Comedy Album Grammy “the toughest Grammy category ever” with this year's crop — which also included Patton Oswalt, Jim Gaffigan, Sarah Silverman and Louis CK.

Though, we suppose that it didn't hurt that one of Yankovic's “competitors” in the field told Grammy voters to direct their votes to him.

During his appearance on “Late Night with Seth Meyers,” Patton Oswalt told fans “Vote for Al.”

“Patton, in fact, gave me a big bump,” multi-Grammy winner Yankovic told press backstage at the Grammy Awards tonight (Feb. 8). “I'm gonna be meeting up with him after the show… I kinda can't believe I won.” (Comedian Oswalt also helped Al out by appearing in his “Foil” music video.)

As for how Yankovic chooses his popular song parodies, he looks for that “undefinable musical or lyrical hook” and makes an “academic” search. Watch the full interview above.
