“Wolverine” Reshooting In Vancouver?

20th Century Fox

Matt Goldberg over at Collider.com did a great job summing up what’s going on with “Wolverine: X-Men Origins” over at 20th Century Fox right now.  I got a fair amount of mail from you guys after I put that film on a list of movies I’m not looking forward to this year, but seriously… it sounds like it’s been a huge train crash from word go.  And most of what happened was about subtle onset control issues affecting major creative changes, and for the most part, it was kept pretty quiet.  I think a lot of it was just that everyone online is so tired of complaining about Fox mishandling a comic book property that it almost seems redundant.

Look, I hope Gavin Hood’s able to use these “extensive reshoots” to really pin down the film he was trying to make.  I named Hood’s film “Tsotsi” as my favorite movie of the year when it came out, and I think he’s got huge potential as a director.  But this is not a system that encourages independent thought, and I’m skeptical that we’ll see much of him in the film at all.  I think it’s going to be Hugh Jackman’s “Elektra.”

Prove me wrong this summer, Fox.  Use the reshoots wisely, and make a great film out of what you’ve got.  I dare you.
