On Sunday, the Eagles won a game for the first time since September, finally putting to rest those weekly “the Phillies have won a game more recently than the Eagles” jokes. It being the Eagles, however, even a victory couldn’t come without humiliation in one form or another. To wit: Jeremy Maclin, who caught the winning touchdown pass against the Buccaneers on the game’s final play, suffered a groin injury when teammate Nnamdi Asomugha jumped on the receiver to celebrate.
Maclin told reporters today that he got hurt when Nnamdi jumped on him after the game-winning touchdown on Sunday.
From the looks of it (watching the replay in slow-mo several times), Nnamdi didn’t connect very hard with the groin. Rather, he put his weight awkwardly on Maclin, which we’re guessing is what caused the injury.
As far as injuries that have resulted from celebrations, it’s no Bill Gramatica, but groin injuries happening as a result of overexuberant teammates lend themselves well to dick jokes. And that’s our stock-in-trade. Well, that and schadenfreude. Those dovetail nicely here.
