Julio Jones did enough to qualify as this week’s Meast in about a quarter of work. Six seconds in the second quarter, Julio had six catches for 120 yards and two touchdowns. While on his first score, he may have been open by about 15 yards, Julio had a highlight reel of amazing catches the rest of the way. He made a great third down catch, snatching the ball away from a Niners DB, to set up an Atlanta field goal. Julio’s second TD catch, improbably getting both toes down in the back of the end zone, might be the best catch so far this postseason.
After that second TD, it appeared as though the Falcons might just roll the Niners. Scoring at will and holding San Francisco to negative yardage in the first quarter. Mike Nolan’s defense had been doing a great job of keeping Kaepernick inside the pocket and attacking him there. Kaep’s first rushing attempt would have come with nine and a half minutes in the second quarter, but the play was negated by a delay of game penalty. Atlanta fans were all:
But after looking overwhelmed early, San Francisco is storming back, mostly on the strength of a seldom covered Vernon Davis. LaMichael James ended the first Niners scoring drive with a long run. It was mostly the aforementioned uncovered Vernon who got San Francisco down the field for their second touchdown, which he took in on a short pass in the flat. Tony Gonzalez kept the tight end scoring bonanza going, catching a TD over the middle with less than a minute to go in the half to put Atlanta back up two scores going into the break.
