It’s not a new pope, but a couple well-known running backs have new homes in the other conference. Time was, we had a lot of fun making fun of Reggie Bush being terrible, but he actually had two respectable seasons as the feature back in Miami. Considering the recent history of Lions running backs, anything approaching decent and durable will be a huge upgrade. Bush got a four-year contract, but just turned 28 at the beginning of this month, so fat chance he sees the end of that deal.
Then there’s fumbleholic Al Qaeda sympathizer Rashard Mendenhall, who has departed Pittsburgh to reunite with former offensive coordinator Bruce Arians in Arizona. Injuries and the aforementioned fumbling kept Mendy off the field in Yinzburgh for most of last year, but he’s still only 25 and therefore capable of rebounding and having a fine season, thus making his one-year deal look canny. But good things like that don’t happen to the Cardinals, so never mind.
