The reigning biggest rivalry in the NFL is renewed. I don’t know why people describe rivalries as being renewed as though they’re magazine subscriptions, but it’s a comfortable idiom to fit in that sentence.
Anyway, dramatic scene in CenturyLink Field as undercover cops roam in 49ers jerseys and a Guinness world record is on the line. Not to mention first place in the NFC West. It’s such a big deal that Colin Kaepernick and Russell Wilson, each of whom might have suffered the fate of playing for the Eagles, teased that a shaved eyebrow is at stake.
Even if the quarterbacks don’t actually dislike one another, there’s plenty of animosity between the coaches dating far back into their days with Stanford and USC. Jim Harbaugh committed time in the off-season away from “Judge Judy” tapings to troll the Seahawks about PED suspensions. Then the 49ers signed Eric Wright to a one-year contract in August, even though he’d been suspended for, yup, PED use.
So it’s gonna be loud and hateful and preferably entertaining because if the games between these two teams suck then we’re in for some lackluster marquee games this season.
