Tony Romo almost broke the NFL single-game record for passing yards. He almost matched Peyton Manning score for score and won. Of course, almost is relative. If you go by narrative, Romo was no closer to winning than he would have been trailing by 40 points in the fourth quarter. Because Romo did what was in his nature.
A stupid decision by the Cowboys defense – that same defense that gave up 51 points – to not let Denver score denied Romo one more possession. Does that really matter beyond creating fodder for more hot sports takes? In the end, we know Romo would have once again only done what it is in his nature.
