The Steelers host the Lions on Sunday. Other than the fact that everyone is wondering how the Lions will manage to screw up the inside track for the NFC North title, there’s not a whole lot of drama to be manufactured about this contest. Pittsburgh sucks this year and the teams have only played eight times in the last 30 years (the only Detroit win in that span being the Jerome Bettis coinflip game on Thanksgiving in 1998).
Without easy storylines, the media is just asking players about the reputation of the opponent because narrative sells, I guess. Nevertheless, they struck gold!
Ben Roethlisberger, in a conference call with Detroit media earlier this week, said of the Lions defensive line, “Well, yeah, you’ve got to be careful. You’ll end up dead if you’re not careful.”
To that, Suh responded defensively.
I’m not a killer,” Suh said. “My track record proves that one. I guess I can take that somewhat as a compliment. But no, there’s going to be no killing on Sunday.”
There you have it. No homicides by Suh this week. He said so himself. You can take it to the bank. Is this statement part of an agreement Suh had with Roger Goodell according to which, if Suh just had to kill, he would announce the killing ahead of time to give the victim a sporting chance? If so, should have tried that with Aaron Hernandez first.
