Losing to the Jaguars in a nationally televised game is as valid a reason for dismissal as any, and so it is that Gary Kubiak has been canned by the Texans, according to Jay Glazer, about 12 hours after the team lost in Jacksonville.
It was just over a month ago that Kubiak collapsed on the field as a result of what was ultimately ruled a “mini stroke” at the end of the first half of a Sunday night game against the Colts. He returned to the sidelines at the beginning of December in time to coach the Texans to a narrow loss at home against the Patriots.
On one hand, probably not the most gracious thing to do to fire Kubiak before the end of the season after he went through that incident. At the same time, going home means not having the endure the overbearing stress of coaching.
In the meantime, Wade Phillips will serve as interim coach, so if anything, laughing at the Texans just got easier in the short term.
