The NFL announced this morning Mike Tomlin will be fined $100,000 for stepping onto the field during play in last Thursday’s Ravens-Steelers tilt. Ominously, the league also announced that draft penalties still could be forthcoming depending on the final order of the 2014 draft.
In addition, because the conduct affected a play on the field, a modification or forfeiture of draft choices will be considered after the final order of the 2014 draft has been determined.
Well that’s horrifying. The Steelers now have to spend the rest of the season not knowing what the final outcome of Tomlin’s misstep cost the team. Considering how poorly Pittsburgh has performed this year and how crucial the 2014 draft is to their rapidly aging corps, they can only hope this is scare tactic to keep coaches — literally — in line.
