The New York Jets announced late today they signed former Philadelphia Eagle quarterback Michael Vick and have cut Mark Sanchez. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Vick’s deal is rumored to be worth $5 million dollars for one year. The Jets would have had to pay Sanchez a $2 million dollar roster bonus had they not made the move by 4 pm on Monday.
Rex Ryan had nothing but praise for the departing buttfumbler:
“I’d like to thank Mark for everything he’s done for this team and me personally,” head coach Rex Ryan said. “We were rookies together and had some early success, becoming the first rookie head coach and quarterback to go to back-to-back championship games. We experienced a lot together and I really appreciate Mark. He’s a great player, a great teammate, and I wish him nothing but the best.”
With teams like the Houston Texans, Cleveland Browns, Jacksonville Jaguars and the Oakland Raiders in desperate need of a quarterback, it should be interesting to see if Nacho stays on the market through the weekend.
Somewhere in Seattle a smug former-USC coach is probably doing this:
Oh wait, that is a smug former-USC coach.
More from the Jets locker room as soon as the blood dries.
