We open today with Belgium-Russian match that could win the Red Devils Group H with a victory or keep the Russian team alive with a draw or a tie after a lackluster opening against South Korea. Belgium could be without its captain — and one of my favorite Manchester City players — Vincent Kompany due to a groin pull, but have a team deep enough they should be able to hold off the Russians. (Although it is interesting to think about how sad it will be for Russia, hosts of the 2018 World Cup, to exit Brazil before the next stage.)
South Korea-Algeria… Let’s not even pretend. We’re just waiting for the next match.
USA! USA! USA!-Portugal is shaping up to be all we can dream of as Americans. A battered, dispirited, possibly Cristiano Ronaldo-free Portuguese team that was throughly humiliated by German 4-0 facing an energized American squad who shocked everyone by scoring just seconds into their game against their archenemies Ghana. Unfortunately the US side is dealing with its own injury concerns as well, playing without forward Jozy Altidore who sit out the match with a pulled hamstring. UPDATE: Germany-Ghana draw yesterday means the US could be on the top of Group H today with a win, a draw means the US could possibly draw with German on Thursday and still move forward. Oh, and that hair gel bottle with abs has been practicing with a leg brace and is looking to play as a bottle of hair gel with abs and a leg brace.
If you call this Sunday Night Soccer or Sunday Night Fútbol? There’s the door.
