The Aaron Hernandez murder trial is winding down, with closing arguments taking place on Tuesday morning. It’s the last chance for attorneys to address the jury. In describing Hernandez’s relationship with Odin Lloyd, Hernandez’s lawyer is spending a lot of time talking about weed. Possibly because we’ve learned weed has played a big part in Hernandez’s life. And also because smoking weed isn’t as bad as murder, though the NFL might be inclined to disagree.

That’s a compelling point. Why would you kill your bluntmaster? There are only so many bluntmasters one encounters in this life. You can’t just go around killing them willy-nilly. It remains to be seen whether the “they shared a love of weed” defense will prove effective for Hernandez, but I salute them for trying.
