A brief note before handing out this week’s Best and Worst. I will be stepping away from this here website at the end of the month. It’s been a lot of fun over the last nine years, but it’s probably time. I will miss you all terribly.

Josh McCown, the 35 year-old career backup quarterback, was just released from the non-guaranteed contract he signed last year with the worst team in the NFL. And everything is coming up Josh McCown. No, he didn’t even get to keep a signing bonus. But he does go into another off-season as one of, if not the, premier free agent quarterbacks in the league. Will he get another chance to start? No. No no no. But what he will get is another $5 million to learn a new playbook, play in a few preseason games, and stick around for the regular season in case he’s needed for a few minutes of meaningless football.

As he says, there are worse things that can happen to a guy.

Getting suspended for a full season was bad, but that’s last week’s problem. This week Gordon has to deal with every media outlet around reporting that JIMMY HASLAM says he needs to take responsiblity for the harm he’s done to himself and the other team employees. Jimmy Haslam! The guy who was accused of ruining his company’s shit by allegedly defrauding their own customers. The whole thing begs the question: Why does Jimmmy Haslam talk?

And yeah, it still sucks to be Josh Gordon.
