A rare banner day for the Jaguars on this, the start of free agency. Not only did the team rid itself of Blaine Gabbert, but they found a team willing to give them a draft pick for him. The 49ers apparently needed either someone hilarious to hold the clipboard or a spare body on hand in case Jim Harbaugh needs to rip out someone’s throat, no questions asked.
San Francisco gave up a sixth round pick in this year’s draft for Gabbert. While in the long view, it’s terrible that Jacksonville’s 10th overall pick in the 2011 draft could only be turned into a sixth rounder three years later, the fact that the Jags got anything at all in exchange for Gabbert is kind of a minor miracle for Jags GM David Caldwell.
What will become of The Flow? Hopefully we will find out soon. In the meantime, we should take bets on which football writer is trollish enough to proclaim a quarterback controversy in San Francisco if Colin Kaepernick has a bad start.
